Aggressive Asuncion tops GT 2nd leg

JOHN ASUNCION leaned on an aggressive final round to capture his second straight victory in the second leg of the 2009 Yokohama Philippine GT Championships recently at the Batangas Racing Circuit.

Asuncion clocked 31 minutes and 54.312 second in the 16-lap final race to claim the GT 200 title over Quincy Buenaflor and William Tan.

In the GT 125 class, Paul Henderson Perez checked in second behind Asuncion while edging Nicolo Fernandez who placed third.

Jerry Villanueva topped the GT 300 division.

Sharing the limelight with Asuncion was Lito Ignacio who turned back Zaldy Coronel in the 2009 Yokohama-San Mig Coffee Classic Car Championship.

In the 11-lap sprint race, Buenaflor proved steadier in the GT 200 to prevail with a time of 21 minutes, 34.945 seconds, a slim 0.230 of a second ahead of Asuncion.

Perez checked in third to claim the GT 125 title in the sprint race over Fernandez while Villanueva also prevailed in the GT 300 class.
