ANTIPOLO? Edgar Ababa and Paul Echavezshot a four-over-par 76 in alternate play on Monday to take a one-stroke lead over Juanito Pagunsan and Ricky delos Santos going into the final day of the I-Fit PGAP Pro-Am at Valley?s South course here.
Ababa, a pro ace in the 1980s, and Echavez, the 20-year-old former caddy at Davao?s Apo course, mixed three birdies against five bogeys and a double bogey to gain momentum going into aggregate play in the final round Tuesday.
Pagunsan, father of Asian Tour star Juvic, and Delos Santos, the caddy master at Aguinaldo, were a stroke ahead of a big group after a 77.
Also putting themselves in the mix were Solomon Gines and Rupert Saragoza, the pocket-sized, 11-year-old son of former RP team ace Boyet, who combined for a 78 like the teams of Jess and JR Casas and Ernie Rellon-Jan Tambogon in the event supported by Valley president Bonifacio Sumbilla and GM Bong Vilchez.
The pro winner of this event organized by PGAP president Jun Bustamante pockets the P75,000 prize, with the amateur guaranteed 30 percent of the purse.
A total of 95 teams teed off on Monday with 20 advancing to the final 18 where gross scores of the amateurs will count toward the team total.
