SUBIC?FOUR OF THE WORLD?S best, including world No. 1 Sergey Yakolev of Russia, lead an international field of 200 racers chasing the men?s elite crown in the 2009 Subic Bay ASTC Asian Duathlon Championship today.

?We were expecting a bigger field, but it seems that the calamities that struck the country have affected our event,? said Tom Carrasco Jr., president of the Triathlon Association of the Philippines (Trap).

The grueling 10K run-40K bike-5K run event fires off at 6 a.m. at the Subic Bay Exhibition and Convention Center.

World No. 2 Damien Derobert of France, No. 4 Raphael Baugh of Australia and No. 10 Yuya Fukaura of Japan are also highly rated in the men?s field. Syria, Malaysia, Singapore, China, Czech Republic and Hong Kong are also participating.

Defending Philippine International Duathlon Open champion Neil Catiil and reigning RP women?s titlist Monica Torres will head the local crew.
