Ford-Tuason rookies shine

THE FORD-TUASON Racing wrapped up the season with another impressive feat behind rookie drivers Veli-Matti Kaikkonen and Cebuano Manger Calderon recently in the championship leg of the Philippine Production Car Championship at the Subic International Raceway.

Kaikkonen emerged as the best finisher with runner-up finishes in Rounds 11 and 12 for the Ford-TRS Racing powered by Ford Racing, Goodyear Racing, Standard Insurance, OMP, Discovery Suite, Yellow Cab Pizza, Aguila Auto Glass, BusinessWorld, C! Magazine, Fremuff, Dupont, Starbright Bodykits, Ultra Racing, Toptul, Orange Electronics, Rota Wheels, K&N, Unichip and Philippine Auto Club.

It was a big improvement for the Finland-native Kaikkonen, the 2001 AIM Concept Car Race Series champion held in Bira ,Thailand, who wound up with spills and misfortunes in the past two legs.

Calderon, a former jetski champ and top motocross rider, clinched third place in Round 11 despite a busted bumper and pulled a repeat in Round 12 to place second runner-up.
