Olivarez pulls thru in Phinma q’fying

MANILA, Philippines?Filipina Shanine Mae Olivarez used her court familiarity and the sizzling clime to subdue Kamila Abdukadirova of Azerbaijan, 6-3, 6-1, Sunday and move within a win of barging into the main draw of the Phinma International junior tennis championships week 1 at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.

The age-group stalwart from one of the country?s most famous tennis clans can make it to the tournament proper for 18-under players with another victory against either Japan?s Sari Baba or Seraina Jaeger of Switzerland Monday.

Baba took a bye while Jaeger dumped Filipina Maika Jae Tanpoco, 6-0, 6-0.

Also trying to earn a slot were Marinel Rudas and Ellison Bingcang, who were playing against separate foreign foes at press time.

Jasmine Tan Ho put up a fight before losing to China?s Cai Xi, 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 while wild card Katrina Orteza fell to Japan?s Mami Adachi, 6-1, 6-1. Also bowing out were Marianne de Guzman, Bletchley Rocafort, Romain Lepoutre, Jeremy Carreon, John Victoria, Andrew Cano and Miko Jalago.
