Melendres, Jose lead RP women’s cage squad

MANILA, Philippines?Training its sights on the world championship, the RP Careline women?s team will begin its quest on Monday in the Fiba Asia U16 Women?s Basketball Championship in Pune, India

Bracketed in Group A, the Nationals are bunched with China, Chinese-Taipei, Hong Kong, Singapore and India in the tournament where the finalists earn slots to the Fiba World U17 Championship for women next year.

RP coach Patrick Aquino will count heavily on starters Jonah Melendres, Tara Araneta, Lore Rivera, Trisha Piatos and the 6-foot-1 Danica Jose, daughter of former PBA player Bobby Jose.

Aquino said these players were selected from over 150 aspirants, along with Jackie Tanaman, Trish Dy, Ginny Pioquinto, Elrica Castro, Kai Javier and Cheskie Tantoco and Kitkat Nitorreda.

?I?m quite optimistic with our chances,? said Aquino, ?At this level, the playing field is almost equal.?
