MANILA, Philippines?Rizal Technological University dealt Globe Asiatique back-to-back routs Saturday and swept the first Pilipinas Softball-Fall Season title at the Rosario Sports Complex in Pasig City.

Ace pitcher Leo Barredo and top batter Jerome Bacarisas, both members of the Philippine Blu Boys, shone as the Blue Thunder took Game 1 easily, 8-3, then repeated the trick, 12-5, in Game 2 in the afternoon.

The twin wins capped a dominating performance for RTU which finished the tournament undefeated in 11 games.

Barredo was adjudged Best Pitcher, while the 20-year-old Bacarisas captured the Most Valuable Player and Batting Champion awards.

Bacarisas sparked the Blue Thunder offense with a total of 13 hits in 22 times at bat. He finished with seven RBIs, blasting a tournament-high five singles and five doubles while tying with four others for most triples with two.

In the battle for third place, reigning National Open champion Phiten-Philippine Air Force overwhelmed Forward Taguig, 13-2.

Five teams saw action in the inaugural semi-professional league including LBC, which bowed out of competition after losing all its games.

Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines official Jun Veloso said they expect an expanded format for the summer tournament with a separate league for women.
