Villeneuve, Gaddi best RP finishers

Namesakes Christian Gaddi and Christian Villeneuve emerged the best Filipino performers in the second leg of the 2010 Asian Karting Open Championship topped by Indonesian Sean Gelael recently at the Kartodromo de Coloane in Macau.
Gaddi of Jet Racing checked in third behind champion Daim Bin Hishammudin of Malaysia and Maximilian Fewtrell of Singapore in the Mini-ROK division.
Villeneuve of Maranello-San Miguel Corp.-Marcelo Racing wound up fourth in the Formula 125 Open Junior class despite figuring in a collision with Jet Racing’s Franco Reyes.
The 16-year-old Gelael went coast-to-coast to sweep both the Pre-Final and Final races and gain a tie for second in the overall Asian standings with kickoff leg champion Richard Bradley. They tote 40 points each and trailed Malaysian Weiron Tan, who had two runner-up finishes, by two points.
Tan, who recorded the fastest time in the qualifying trials, tried to chase Gelael in the last five laps but the Indonesian showed consistency and held on to prevail.
Cebuano JT Gullas ran unopposed to claim the ROK Junior crown.
Christian Silvano of Indonesia took third place and built a comfortable margin over compatriot Edward Cheever, who posted the fastest laptime of 49.27 seconds.
Silvano vaulted from 18th to fourth place.
Singaporean Andersen Martono, only 13, took the honors in the 16-man, 18-lap Formula 125 Open Junior class over Darma M. Hutomo of Indonesia who endured the pain of a wrist injury for runner-up honors.
