Philippine Daily Inquirer

MANILA, Philippines?Jujet De Asis outsprinted fellow veteran runners Rafael Poliquit Jr. and Bernardo Desamito Jr. to rule the inaugural Growers NutriBar Hip 2B Fit run held at the UP Diliman campus in Quezon City recently.

The 27-year-old De Asis crossed the 10K finish line in 31 minutes and 22 seconds. Only one second separated runners-up Poliquit (31:40) and Desamito (31:41).

De Asis, whose wins this year included Takbo Para sa Kalikasan 10K last March and National Geographic Channel and SlimmeRun 5K both held in April, pocketed P7,000.

Poliquit and Desamito settled for P5,000 and P3,000, respectively.

In the distaff side, Luisa Raterta emerged fastest with a time 37:38, followed by Dalyn Carmen (39:31) and Mirasol Abad (40:06).

The 29-year-old Raterta is coming off a win in the 34th Milo Marathon 42K elimination in Manila last July 4

The event, which also featured 3K, 5K and 3K parent-child divisions, was for the benefit of the UP Padyak project. It aimed to promote biking within the campus as a means of transportation and to lessen the dependence on fuel-driven vehicles.

Growers NutriBar donated bike racks to be installed around the campus where UP Padyak members can safely park their bicycles.
