Their Southern California itinerary is a 10-year-old boy’s dream: Disneyland, a Lakers game and a visit to the Santa Monica beach. But most of the players from a basketball academy in the mountains of southern Mexico haven’t heard of Mickey Mouse. They grew up in isolated villages, and for them, basketball is a ticket to a better life.

Mexico qualifies for World Cup with 4-2 win over NZ

Mexico qualified for the World Cup after beating New Zealand 4-2 in the second leg of an inter-continental playoff Wednesday, bringing an end to one of its most troubled and divisive qualifying campaigns.

US clinches World Cup berth, beats Mexico 2-0
