‘Slight improvement’ in Schumacher’s condition—source

There has been a “slight improvement” in Michael Schumacher’s condition, a source close to the Formula One legend said on Monday, eight days after a skiing accident left him with life-threatening injuries.

Racer in 2009 crash recalls brain injury struggle

The Swiss Alpine racer left spectators gasping in horror when he lost control during a training run in January 2009, landing on his back and sliding down the icy slope.Then came three weeks in a medically induced coma and months of struggling for a simple word or phrase. Ultimately, while still in his 20s, the former world champion had to give up competing in the sport that he loved. A year after almost losing her life in a gruesome racing accident, former Formula One test driver Maria de Villota was found dead in a hotel room in Seville on Friday — with an autopsy showing that lingering injuries from her wreck likely caused her death. De Villota was 33.
