Federer in great escape to reach US Open semis

Roger Federer saved two match points to defeat Gael Monfils 4-6, 3-6, 6-4, 7-5, 6-2 and reach his ninth US Open semi-final Thursday, keeping alive his dream of a sixth title.

Federer’s confidence soaring before US Open

The question made Roger Federer smile. Nothing particularly amusing about asking how he adjusts from playing mostly night matches in the US Open’s early rounds to the daytime starts at the end. But the assumption behind the query was cause for delight.
