KALIBO, AKLAN - Scheider Nebato, ALcon John Datu and Vince Angelo Medina emerged as overall champions in their respective categories at the close of the 2009 NCFP National Age-Group chess championships at the Cabagnot Training and Tourism Center here.

Nebato settled for a draw with Joel Pimentel Jr. in the final round to top the 18-and-under class in the tournament held in cooperation with the Aklan provincial government.

Nebato finished in a two-way tie for first with Patrick Erle Florendo with 5.5 points each but won the title on a higher tiebreak score.

Datu whipped Clark Kent Anabieza to clinch the boys 16-and-under title with 6.5 points.

Medina also leaned on a higher tiebreak score to nip Kristian Paulo Cristobal for 14-and-under class. Both wound up with 5.5.
