Ateneo wrapped up its UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament on a high note at the expense of Adamson, 25-13, 25-17, 25-21, on Wednesday at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

MANILA, Philippines — National University ended No.1 seed Far Eastern University’s eight-game winning streak with a 25-22, 25-21, 25-20 victory to secure at least a playoff for the last twice-to-beat bonus in the UAAP Season 86 men’s volleyball Final Four on Wednesday at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The Bulldogs leaned on Owa Retamar’s stellar game of 17 excellent sets and five blocks to finish with eight points and Michaelo Buddin’s best game of the season so far with 17 points built on 15-of-27 attacks, one block, and an ace on top of 11 excellent receptions.

A straight sets loser in its opening day match, bamboozled by the defending champions late in the first round.

And yet, it is National University (NU) which has the chance to grab the first twice-to-beat slot in the Final Four of the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament, with the two squads that dealt the Lady Bulldogs sound beatings before left in a virtual elimination match later in the week. MANILA, Philippines — Shevana Laput and Vince Maglinao delivered the goods as De La Salle University posted big-time wins in the homestretch of the UAAP Season 86 women’s and men’s volleyball tournaments.

The two ace spikers clicked from all cylinders to help the La Salle squads go 2-0 in the crucial period entering the final week of the wild tourney with major playoff implications on the line.

Their heroics proved more than enough as Laput and Maglinao earned the Collegiate Press Corps’ UAAP Players of the Week from April 17 to 21. FULL STORY

Assistant coach Noel Orcullo has said very little concerning the status of Angel Canino. But this time, what he said had a lot of meat in it.

“Hopefully she can return, if not in our game against UST (University of Santo Tomas), in the semis [for sure],” Orcullo said, referring to the anticipated return of star spiker Angel Canino possibly on Saturday, when the Lady Spikers dispute a twice-to-beat Final Four bonus with UST in Season 86 of the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament.
