Paris Olympics: Kiyomi Watanabe ‘no regrets’ after early exit

MANILA, Philippines—Team Philippines’ Kiyomi Watanabe said she had no regrets despite a quick end to her campaign in the women -63kg judo at the Paris Olympics 2024.

Watanabe was no match for China’s Tang Jing in their round of 32 match at Champ-de-Mars Arena, where the Filipino-Japanese lasted just 51 seconds.

“I knew she was strong. I wanted to see how far I could hold out what I’ve learned,” said an emotional Watanabe, a two-time Olympian.

“I’ve had a lot of support and it’s pretty tough to get so I have no regrets.”

The match was like a repeat of what happened at the Tokyo Games.

Back in Tokyo, Watanabe was beaten by Spain’s Cristina Cabaña Perez in just 38 seconds also in the round of 32 in th same class.
