Carlos Yulo triumphed on Saturday in the men’s floor exercise of the gymnastics in Paris for only the second Olympic gold in the history of the Philippines.

The 24-year-old broke down in tears after matching the achievement of weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz, who won gold at the COVID-delayed 2020 Tokyo Games.

Carlos Yulo successfully delivered Team Philippines’ first gold medal in the Paris Olympics 2024, ruling the men’s artistic gymnastics floor exercise final at Bercy Arena on Saturday night (Manila time).

Yulo tallied 15.000 points as the third gymnast competing in his pet apparatus, sufficient for a gold medal finish–the first of the country in this year’s Olympics and second overall after Hidilyn Diaz Naranjo’s breakthrough gold in Tokyo. FULL STORY

Carlo Paalam was shown the door in the men’s 57kg division at the Paris Olympics 2024 after losing an ultra-tight quarterfinal duel late Saturday (Manila time) against Australia’s Charlie Senior.

Senior defeated Paalam, 3-2, in a dramatic battle that featured furious exchanges in the final two rounds after a tentative start by both boxers in their quarterfinal duel at North Paris Arena. FULL STORY

MANILA, Philippines—Team Philippines’ EJ Obiena overcame a shaky start to secure his spot in the Paris Olympics 2024 men’s pole vault final on Saturday.

Obiena moved on to the final of the men’s pole vault for his second straight Olympics stint after clearing 5.75 meter, good for the seventh seed overall and sixth in Group A.

Only the Top 12 after qualifications earned a seat in the medal round. The final is set for August 6 at 1 am (Philippine time). FULL STORY

MANILA, Philippines—Team Philippines’ Joanie Delgaco may not have notched a medal finish in the Paris Olympics 2024’s women’s single sculls rowing event but she’s still bringing home some good news.

She finished as the 20th best rower of the Summer Games after her classification race at Nautical St – Flat Water on Friday afternoon (Manila time) with an official time of 7:43.83 minutes. FULL STORY
