Carlos Yulo bags second gold medal, rules vault in Paris Olympics

The goal, for Team Philippines, was to better what was an astounding performance by the country in the Tokyo Olympics.

Carlos Yulo accomplished that all by himself.

Riding a strong first vault with a high difficulty score and then executing solidly in his second, Yulo won his second gold medal late Saturday evening after ruling the vault apparatus in the men’s artistic gymnastics competition of the Paris Olympics 2024. FULL STORY

  •  Jarman goes 14.933 after 2 vaults. He is at 2nd place. Caloy Yulo next.
  • 15.100 for Jarman in that first vault. 6.000 difficulty.
  • Up next is Britain’s Harry Hepworth. 14.949 to take first place.
  • First to try is Nazar Chepurnyi of Ukraine. He gets 14.899.
  • Two vaults per participant, scores will be averaged.
  • Yulo and Jarman are the only vault finalists who submitted 6.000 difficulty.

There was a sea of difference in boxing mastery in the first two rounds.

Nesthy Petecio was all over Xu Zichun in their quarterfinal bout, hosing down her Chinese foe with a variety of lefts to assure the Philippines of another boxing bronze Sunday (Manila time), this time in the women’s 57kg class in the Paris Olympics.

Petecio was markedly superior against Xu, unveiling a left-hand menu that included straights and overhands to shut out the Chinese in the first two rounds at North Paris Arena. FULL STORY

MANILA, Philippines — Team Philippines’ Olympians were one in celebrating Carlos Yulo’s historic gold medal finish in the Paris Olympics 2024 men’s artistic gymnastics floor exercise.

Congratulatory messages from athletes, celebrities, and sports fans poured in for the country’s second Olympic gold medalist after ruling the competition with a stunning performance, which earned 15.000 points on Saturday. FULL STORY

MANILA, Philippine—Team Philippines’ Lauren Hoffman will have to dig deep to win a medal in the Paris Olympics 2024 women’s 400m hurdles competition.

Much like his compatriot John Cabang Tolentino, Hoffman was relegated to the repechage phase after failing to qualify for an outright semis berth in the first round of the hurdle events. FULL STORY

MANILA, Philippines—Team Philippines’ John Cabang Tolentino may not have earned an outright spot in the semifinals of the Paris Olympics 2024 men’s 110m hurdles first round but his hopes for a medal finish stayed alive.

MANILA, Philippines — Millions worth of incentives await Paris Olympics 2024 men’s floor exercise gold medalist Carlos Yulo and other potential winners from Team Philippines when they come home to celebrate their success.

Yulo became the country’s second Olympic gold medalist after 2020 Tokyo Games weightlifting champion Hidilyn Diaz. He also emerged as the first Filipino gymnast to win it all when he ruled the floor exercise final, edging erstwhile defending champion Artem Dolgopyat of Israel. FULL STORY

MANILA, Philippines—Team Philippines’ Carlos Yulo savored his gold medal in the Paris Olympics 2024 men’s artistic gymnastics floor exercises with someone dear to him.

Chloe Anjeleigh San Jose, Yulo’s girlfriend, posted a fun interaction between her and the Philippines’ first Olympic gymnastics gold medalist following the “Uy, Philippines!” trend.

“We did it all in God’s name!” wrote San Jose with a gold medal emoji to match. FULL STORY

MANILA, Philippines—EJ Obiena had Filipinos on the edge of their seats in the Paris Olympics 2024 men’s pole vault qualification phase.

And, well, he knows about it, too.

MANILA, Philippines — Team Philippines’ Carlo Paalam felt he did enough to win his men’s 57kg quarterfinal bout that would’ve assured him of at least a bronze medal at the Paris Olympics 2024 on Saturday.

Instead, Paalam was sent packing following a heartbreaking split decision loss to Australia’s Charlie Senior at North Paris Arena in France.

The 26-year-old Paalam, one of the country’s top bets to bring home a medal, couldn’t hide his frustration over his tough 3-2 loss to Senior, believing he landed the cleaner punches in their furious exchanges in the last two rounds. FULL STORY

Team Philippines’ first ever gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz-Naranjo congratulated gymnast and fellow Tokyo Olympian Carlos Yulo after making history in the Paris Olympics 2024 and joining an elite crowd in the country’s sports history.
