Elreen Ando may not have seized a medal, but she earned the respect of the crowd in the women’s weightlifting 59-kilogram division of the Paris Olympics.
The packed audience at South Paris Arena roared as Ando completed her clean and jerk sequence at 130kg in her final try, allowing the Filipino to at least take home a new personal best and finish in sixth place.

- Luo Shifang takes home the gold medal here in the women’s 59kg weightlifting. All Olympic record-setting lifts for the 23-year-old Chinese lift. Maude Charron of Canada with silver, Kuo Hsing-chun of Taiwan with bronze.
- Third time’s the charm for Elreen Ando!!! She makes 130kg in clean and jerk on her final attempt. No medal here but she jumps to sixth place so far with a total of 230kgs. Inspired final lift for the Cebuano. The C&J and total are both personal bests.

MANILA, Philippines—Paris Olympics double medalist Carlos Yulo has been enjoying the sights and sounds of the French capital after his historic campaign.
On Wednesday, Yulo, together with his girlfriend Chloe Anjeleigh San Jose, posed in front of the iconic French monument Arc de Triomphe showing off his gymnastic gold medals.
“Through God’s grace, we made it mahal,” wrote Yulo, who was also seen visiting Paris Disneyland as part of his victory celebration. FULL STORY

Bianca Pagdanganan gave the Philippine medal machine some life after shooting a three-under-par 69 in the second round of the women’s golf competition on Thursday that catapulted the long-hitting Filipino into podium contention in the Paris Olympics at Le Golf National.
With first round leader Celine Boutier of France sputtering and world No. 1 Nelly Korda having a major hobble late in the back nine, Pagdanganan’s 141 aggregate put her within five shots of the lead now being held by Switzerland’s Morgane Metraux, who churned out an unbelievable front nine on the way to a 66. MANILA, Philippines—Team Philippines’ EJ Obiena may not know exactly the next step in his career, but he is putting a premium on taking care of his health after coming up short in his medal bid in the Paris Olympics 2024 men’s pole vault.
In an online press conference on Wednesday, Obiena revealed that his next move now—other than try and maintain his position on the world ladder—is to take care of his health.

Nesthy Petecio to be promoted to the next rank in Coast Guard

MANILA, Philippines — Bemedalled Olympic boxer Nesthy Petecio, who also serves as a non-commissioned personnel of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), will be promoted to a higher rank once she returns.
Petecio’s current rank in the PCG is Petty Officer Second Class. She will be given the next rank of Petty Officer First Class. FULL STORY

MANILA, Philippines—John Ceniza revealed he competed with a shoulder injury that affected his performance in the men’s -61kg weightlifting at the Paris Olympics 2024.
Ceniza registered a “Did Not Finish” and suffered an early exit in his campaign after failing in all three attempts at 125kg of the snatch at South Paris Arena.
“Mahirap mag-compete ng ‘di pa naka-recover pero nag-compete ako para sa Pilipinas. Lumaban pa rin ako kahit may injury,” told Ceniza with One Sports. FULL STORY

MANILA, Philippines—Nesthy Petecio was left baffled after losing to Poland’s Julia Szeremeta in their women’s 57kg boxing semifinal at the Paris Olympics 2024 on Thursday.
Petecio came out swinging at the bell but appeared to have run out of gas in the final two rounds as Szeremeta secured her spot in the gold medal round.
“Sobrang labo. ’Yon yung nakikita nila e so wala na tayo magagawa po. Wala siyang clear punches sa third round, tapos body shots and hooks ko kumo-connect. Ewan ko, di ko pa alam ano nangyari,” said Petecio in interview with One Sports. FULL STORY

Nesthy Petecio lost steam in the final two rounds against a spirited opponent and missed the chance to advance to the final of the 2024 Paris Olympics women’s boxing event.
Petecio stormed out of the gates with her big lefts sending Poland’s Julia Szeremeta reeling but could not carry that effort into the final two rounds of their 57kg semifinal bout Thursday morning at Stade Roland Garros.

MANILA, Philippines — Can’t stop, won’t stop.
That’s Nesthy Petecio’s mindset just two wins away from a Paris Olympics 2024 gold medal.
“Walang hinto hangga’t walang ginto,” said Petecio in an interview with Olympic broadcaster One Sports shortly after barging into the semifinal of the women’s 57kg boxing.
