Marcos to welcome Filipino Olympians back home after Paris 2024

MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is set to welcome the Filipino Olympic athletes back to the country on Tuesday, August 13, after their participation in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

According to the Presidential Communications Office, Carlos Yulo, the first two-time Filipino gold medalist in the Olympics, and the other Olympians will arrive on Tuesday afternoon and will be met by their families at the Villamor Airbase.

“Upon their arrival at the Palace, the Olympians will be welcomed by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., First Lady Louise Araneta-Marcos, and the First Family,” said the PCO in a statement.

“A special program will follow, where the President will personally honor the athletes and present them with well-deserved incentives, recognizing their extraordinary contributions to Philippine sports and their stellar performance during the 2024 Paris Olympics,” it added.

Among the Filipino Olympians who won medals in the most prestigious multi-sport international event were Yulo, who won gold in floor exercise and vault in Men’s Artistic Gymnastics, as well as Aira Villegas and Nesthy Petecio who each won bronze in Women’s Boxing.
