Marcos awards P1 million each to 6 Filipino Paralympians

MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. welcomed the country’s athletes who participated in the 2024 Paris Paralympics and announced that each will receive P1 million the Palace said Thursday.

The Filipino Paralympians met Marcos after paying him a courtesy call at the Malacañan Palace.

The Paralympians were composed of Cendy Asusano, javelin throw; Agustina Bantiloc, archery; Allain Ganapin, taekwondo; Ernie Gawilan, swimming; Jerrold Mangliwan, wheelchair racing; and Angel Otom, swimming.

“Together with First Lady Louise Araneta Marcos and the rest of the First Family, the President awards P1 million cash incentive and Presidential citation to each of the six Paralympians,” the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) said.

Apart from the P1 million cash incentive, each athlete also received presidential citations from Marcos.

Although the Philippines didn’t secure a medal, all six athletes gave a strong performance in the international competition, with Asusano almost reaching the podium with the fourth spot in the women’s javelin throw.
