UFL: Minus star striker, Stallion gallops past Air Force XI

UNITED Football League leader Stallion hardly missed its star striker as Nathan Alquiros and Matthias Bonhevi scored a brace each to lead a 6-0 whipping of Air Force Thursday night at Emperador Stadium in Taguig City.

With leading scorer Rufo Sanchez sitting out the match due to suspension, Stallion got its firepower from Alquiros, the De La Salle standout, whose two second half goals put away the Airmen for good.

Bonhevi matched Alquiro’ output in the second half as Stallion went five points clear of Global in the title race, although the defending champions have one more match.

Stallion has four matches remaining, but it still has a tough task ahead with matches against Loyola and Global in the coming weeks.

Pasargad made a big leap out of relegation trouble after an emphatic 7-2 triumph over Nomads in the first match.

Emmanuel Mbata struck twice to raise his tally to 11 goals, while Michael Nelson, Belinga Blanchard, Hamid Hajimehdi, Jalsor Soriano and Kalilou Toure were on target for Pasargad, which climbed to sixth spot with 14 points.

Nomads, who scored their breakthrough goal through Luis Infante when PSG was already 3-0 up, remained winless in eight matches, falling to seventh spot and barely ahead of Green Archers.

After taking a lead through a Lee Won Hyung free kick in the third minute, Stallion found difficulty breaking down Air Force in the first half.

Alquiros came in at halftime to spark the attack for Stallion.
