Adamson, NU clash for last finals berth

HAVING battled for 10 sets in the last two matches, Adamson and National U are no longer strangers to each other’s playing style.

This time, it will be a test of will and resolve when the two squads clash again today for the second finals berth of the Shakey’s V-League Season 10 First Conference at Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

The winner of the 4 p.m. duel will face defending champion Ateneo in the best-of-three finals starting Tuesday.

Ateneo, seeking a third straight crown, swept University of Santo Tomas in their own semifinal series to clinch the first finals seat.

With Angela Benting leading the charge, a confident Adamson squad took Game 1 after a grueling five-set battle at Philsports Arena last Tuesday.

The Lady Bulldogs leveled the series and forged a do-or-die encounter with a similarly hard fought win in Game 2 last Thursday at MOA Arena.

NU coach Edjet Mabbayad feels his squad has the momentum heading into the deciding game.

“We don’t want to let this opportunity slip,” said Mabbayad after NU’s victory in Game 2. “We’ll go all-out. We’re not taking chances against them (Adamson).”

Adamson’s strength in the tournament has been its blocking, but the Lady Falcons found difficulty coping with the power of the Lady Bulldogs in Game 2.

Errors hounded NU, but the Lady Bulldogs also proved solid defensively with a 16-2 edge in points off blocks.

The spotlight will be on sisters Dindin and Jaja Santiago, who combined for 38 points in Game 2.
