Lions repulse Tams; Warriors crush Tigers

OLA ADEOGUN and Arthur dela Cruz kept San Beda afloat in the final five minutes as the NCAA champion Lions slipped past Far Eastern University, 80-76, yesterday in the Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup at Filoil Flying V Arena.

Dela Cruz buried 18 points, the last four inside the final two minutes that put the Lions ahead, 78-74, against an FEU side that kept coming back behind RR Garcia.

Adeogun also dropped 11 of his 15 points in the final quarter to help the Lions pick up their third triumph in four games in Group A.

“We just came back last Wednesday, so we’re happy we came out with the win,” said coach Boyet Fernandez.

In Group B action, Ralf Olivarez and Jay-R Sumido shot perfectly from the field to lead University of the East to a surprise 85-68 blasting of University of Santo Tomas.

Earlier, Adamson hotshot Jericho Cruz tallied a game-high 25 points and Ingrid Sewa had a double-double of 24 points and 12 boards to lead Adamson past St. Benilde, 80-63, in Group A.

The rookie Olivarez nailed all his seven attempts, and also went 3-for-3 from the free throw line, to finish with 17 points.

Sumido recorded a perfect 4-of-4 from three-point range for 16 markers in the win that put the Warriors up at 4-2 in Group B.

Rodney Brondial had 13 markers, including six straight in a key run that gave the Falcons a 19-point lead, 80-61. The Falcons improved to 3-2, while the Tigers and the Tamaraws fell to 3-3. With reports from Nico Pascual, Carla Perez, Nikka Valenzuela
