MANILA—Host Rizal Techonological University is looking at another winning season in the 42nd Women’s National Collegiate Athletic Association set to start on Saturday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
The RTU Blue Thunder will open their senior basketball campaign against the Centro Escolar University Scorpions at 12:30 p.m. It will be followed by the Poveda-St. Paul College Pasig midget clash at 2 p.m. and the St. Scholastica’s College-San Beda College Alabang seniors tiff at 3:30 p.m.
RTU placed third in the previous season behind Lyceum and College of St. Benilde, which both took a leave of absence this season due to failure to field complete volleyball teams. La Consolacion College Manila is the third team on leave.
“Our players have been joining other leagues and practicing really hard, almost everyday, so I don’t see any reason why we won’t be competitive anew this year,” said RTU president Dr. Jesus Torres during yesterday’s press conference.
RTU bagged futsal, table tennis, badminton and taekwondo crowns last year to emerge overall senior champion.
Miriam was junior overall champion.
A total of 16 teams are competing this season, which carries the theme “Dream, Believe, Achieve.”
