THE PHILIPPINE Sports Commission wants the top performers of the coming Philippine National Games (PNG), regardless of origin and affiliation, to be rewarded with a slot in the national pool.
“An athlete who showed enough promise by winning an event must be included in the pool,” said PSC chair Richie Garcia, adding that national sports associations (NSAs) won’t get their regular funding by ignoring the directive.
“If they (NSAs) refuse to take them in, then we can use the power of funding.”
The PSC-organized PNG is scheduled May 24 to June 2 with 320 gold medals up for grabs in 41 sports. Hostilities in gymnastics began yesterday at Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.
Only those who are injured and training overseas are exempted from the meet.
