Teen cyclist rules Subic race
TEENAGER Jester Mendoza stole the thunder from the seasoned bets as he ruled the 90-kilometer road race of the 2013 AboitizPower Tour of Subic at Subic Bay Freeport Sunday.
Flashing form beyond his years, the 15-year-old clocked two hours, 27 minutes and 37 seconds in the premier Category 3.
Mendoza’s surprise triumph spoiled the bid of Von Dutch rider Ricky Calla, who settled anew for second place.
Article continues after this advertisementCalla also ended up second in the 20 km Individual Time Trial and the 40 km Criterium race of the two-day race organized by Bike King Philippines and co-sponsored by AboitizPower and its subsidiary, SN-AboitizPower Group.
Sharing the limelight with Mendoza was former national cyclist Marita Lucas of David’s Salon who ruled the 85-km road race in 2:53.39.
Lucas, who also topped the criterium event Saturday, bested a formidable field that also included triathlete Keshia Fule and Marella Vanie Salamat.
Article continues after this advertisementAldrian Adlawan of Admor Team topped the Category 4 in the event supported by Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority Tourism Department, Unilab Active Health, Orbea, Corima, Crystal Clear, Garmin, Pocari Sweat and Mini Phlippines.
Adlawan checked in at 2:52:45 to best Rodel Ramirez of Franzia Wine and Nicasio Onan. Cedelf P. Tupas
