Huey-Inglot gains q’finals in Dusseldorf

Filipino Treat Huey and Dominic Inglot of Great Britain barged into the men’s doubles quarterfinals of the Power Horse Cup ATP 250 Tuesday with a hard-earned 5-7, 7-6 (7-2), 10-2 victory over local bet Philip Marx and Florin Mergen of Romania in Dusseldorf, Germany.

The come-from-behind triumph lifted the third-seeded tandem of Huey and Inglot into a Final 8 clash with Daniel Brands of Germany and Igor Sjsling of Netherlands, who eliminated Tomazs Bednarek of Poland and Jamie Delgado of Great Britain, 6-2, 6-4.

Huey and his partner are sharpening their clay court game in preparation for the second Grand Slam of the year, the French Open in Roland Garros, where they reached the third round last year.

It was a morale-boosting win for Huey, who lost in the first round the previous week in Rome with partner Jeremy Chardy of France. They lost to Spain’s Fernando Verdasco and David Marrero, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4).

Huey and Inglot, whose partnership began as players for University of Virginia, reached the  third round of a grand slam event once—the 2011 US Open.
