Azkals call off Kyrgyzstan friendly

The Philippines has called off its international friendly match against Kyrgyzstan on June 8, citing difficulty to find convenient flights to the country’s capital, Bishkek.

Philippine Football Federation general secretary Ed Gastanes told the Inquirer that they were forced to beg off from the match because of the “punishing” travel schedule to Bishkek.

Apart from the prohibitive airline ticket price of $7,000 per person, inquiries by the PFF showed that the Azkals would be traveling for about 20 hours just to get to Bishkek via Russia.

“Its a very stressful route and the team may not recover in time for the match,” said Gastanes. Cedelf P. Tupas
