Pacquiao hits the notes this time
MANILA—Pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao briefly took his mind off his Nov. 13 showdown against Antonio Margarito at the Dallas Cowboys Stadium to have some fun Monday night. Pacquiao made his third appearance on the Jimmy Kimmel Live late night show on ABC and won the hearts of the studio fans both during and after singing the Beatles hit “Imagine” with comedian Will Ferrell. Pacquiao’s adviser Michael Koncz, who was in the studio, said that he was pleasantly surprised that Manny was applauded by what he called a “mostly white” audience. Koncz, according to a report, claimed that Pacquiao did not approve of the choice of the song “Imagine” but that “after meeting Will Ferrell and rehearsing it, that Manny felt it would be a lot of fun.” “It was enjoyable for him and it was a great evening,” said Koncz. Pacquiao’s performance at the Wild Card Gym earlier in the day also gladdened the hearts of his training staff as well as members of Team Pacquiao. Koncz said Pacquiao jogged in the morning and didn’t seem to tire at all before going 12 rounds on the punch mitts. “There were no problems at all. He looked in great shape,” Koncz added. Ever since he appeared as a guest on the popular Jimmy Kimmel show, Pacquiao has been on a roll, stopping Miguel Cotto in the 12th round in November 2009 and scoring a 12-round shutout over Joshua Clottey last March. Pacquiao’s fight against Margarito will be for the WBC super welterweight crown. A victory by the Filipino ring icon will give him a record eighth division crown.
