PARIS — Defending champion Rafael Nadal reached the French Open second round on Monday with a 4-6, 7-6 (7/4), 6-4, 6-3 win over Germany’s Daniel Brands.
Nadal will face either Martin Klizan of Slovakia or Michael Russell of the United States for a place in the last 32.
