Global, Stallion in crucial UFL clash tonight

LEADER Stallion and defending champion Global collide tonight in a potential title decider of the United Football League at Emperador Stadium in Taguig City.

Five points separate the two sides with three matches remaining for Stallion, which can close in on its first UFL title with a win in the 7:30 p.m. duel.

Global, with 37 points, needs to sweep its remaining four games and hopes that Stallion slip in its last three matches, including tonight.

Loyola Meralco, running third, has faded from the title picture, but the Sparks will still have a say in the championship race with matches against Stallion and Global in the final three weeks of the season.

“It’s an important game because if we win, our fate is still in our hands,” said Global owner Dan Palami. “If we want to win the title, we must beat Stallion.”

A shorthanded Global side downed Stallion, 1-0, in the first round with Izzo El-Habbib scoring the only goal of the match. After missing the 2-0 win over Air Force last Thursday due to suspension, El-Habbib, who has 10 goals so far this season, will again be available for selection.

Since the loss to Global, Stallion has racked up eight straight victories, including a 2-0 blanking of Pachanga Diliman last Thursday.

Stallion’s Rufo Sanchez leads the league in scoring with 16 goals.
