Shell national active chess up

THE SEARCH for the country’s new chess stars begins today when the Shell National Youth Active Chess Championships kicks off its 21st staging with a five-leg circuit spread over key cities in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

Manila will host the first leg on May 29 and 30 for the National Capital Region  eliminations at SM Megamall Event Center before the circuit goes to Batangas for the Southern Luzon leg on June 22 and 23 at SM Batangas.

Action shifts to Visayas for the third leg on July 13 and 14 at SM Cebu Event Center in Cebu, which boasts a wide base of players and enthusiasts. Davao, another chess hotbed, stages the penultimate leg on Aug. 3 and 4 at SM Davao Event Center.
