Viloria letting ‘his hands go’ tomorrow

09:58 AM November 03, 2010
MANILA—Determined to return to the top, two-time former world champion Brian Viloria on Wednesday promised to put up the performance of his career when he battles Thailand’s Liempetch Sor Veerapol Friday night in the main event of “Friday Fightfest” Boxing at the Bay 5 at the Ynares Sports Arena.   The 27-year-old Viloria, now campaigning in the flyweight division, knows the fight will be crucial in his bid to earn another shot at a world title.   With the brutal title fight loss to Carlos Tamara still on his mind, Viloria appeared too cautious at times in pulling off a split decision victory over Mexico’s Omar Soto last July.   But the “Hawaiian Punch” vows to produce a more convincing form against Veerapol, who has already lost to  Filipino fighters Marvin Sonsona and Jonhriel Casimiro.   “You’re not only going to see the vintage Brian Viloria, but also a fighter who is not too careless,” said Viloria, the former WBC and IBF light flyweight titleholder, who has a record of 27 wins with 15 knockouts and three losses.   “The win over Soto gave me the confidence to just let my hands go.”   Having logged 120 rounds of sparring against crack fighters like Mexico’s Giovanni Segura, Viloria described his preparation for the fight as “pristine.”   “Brian is just showing renewed spirit, renewed energy,” said Ruben Gomez, one of Viloria’s trainers. “He is taking this fight very seriously. He’s put a lot of effort into this. I’ve never seen him train harder.”   The fight card put up by Solar TV will also feature rising star Denver Cuello, who will clash with Kongkria Kiatpracha of Thailand.
