SINGAPORE—Global, buoyed by an impressive win over a title contender in the United Football League earlier in the week, makes its Singapore Cup debut against Warriors FC Saturday night at Choa Chu Kang Stadium west of the city.
Invited for the first time in the prestigious tournament, Global is hoping to join fellow UFL side Loyola Meralco in the next round in their second international competition in as many months.
Global, which also saw action in the AFC President’s Cup for the first time early last month in Cebu, goes into the 7:30 p.m. match in inspired form after beating title contender Stallion, 2-1, last Tuesday.
The Warriors are the reigning Singapore Cup champions with a team led by Singapore internationals Daniel Bennet and Hassan Sunny and Bosnian striker Mislav Karoglan and Japanese midfielder Tatsuro Inui.
But they’ve struggled in the Singapore League, where they are in 10th spot out of 12 teams.
