NBA: Blaylock critical after head-on smash, report

LOS ANGELES – Former NBA All-Star Mookie Blaylock was in critical condition in hospital following a head-on car smash on a street in suburban Atlanta, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported on Friday.

Police told the newspaper that two other people were injured in Friday’s crash and that Blaylock was on life-support in intensive care at the Atlanta Medical Center.

At least one of the crash victims had to be taken to hospital in an air ambulance.

Police spokesman Franklin Allen told the Journal-Constitution that a Cadillac Escalade driven by Blaylock crossed over the centre median and struck a vehicle on the other side with two people in it, including a woman who suffered serious internal injuries. Allen said police are still investigating the cause of the crash.

Witnesses said Blaylock’s Escalade flipped over before landing in a ditch on the side of the road.

Blaylock, 46, played for the Atlanta Hawks from 1992 to 1999. A two-time, first-team pick to the NBA’s all-defensive team, Blaylock also played for the Nets (1989-1992) and Warriors (1999-2002).

The former point guard averaged 13.5 points and 6.7 assists per game during his professional career.
