Viloria hits comeback trail again tonight
MANILA—Former two-time world champion Brian “The Hawaiian Punch” Viloria tries to prove that he is not yet over-the-hill when he clashes with Thai Liempetch Sor Veerapol tonight at the Ynares Sports Arena.
“I want to prove that I still have what it takes to be a world champion again,” said the 29-year-old Viloria, a former WBC and IBF light flyweight champion, who will be fighting as a flyweight in the 10-round bout. Viloria wants an impressive victory to merit the attention of WBO flyweight champion Julio Cesar Miranda of Mexico. Viloria lost his IBF light flyweight title early this year after absorbing a technical knockout defeat to Colombia’s Carlos Tamara in Manila. The Filipino-American boxer, who has 27 wins (15 KOs) and three losses, moved up to flyweight and won his first bout—albeit unconvincingly—against Mexico’s Omar Soto last July. Former world champion Rodel Mayol and Denver Cuello will also be in action against Thais in the card presented by Solar Sports.
