Filoil Flying V: La Salle wins women’s title; San Beda completes juniors’ ‘4-peat’

MANILA, Philippines – Trish Piatos saved the day for La Salle en route to the women’s crown as San Beda grabbed its fourth straight junior’s title Wednesday morning in the 2013 Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup.

Piatos knocked down the game winner with 2.7 seconds left to lift the Lady Archers over Far Eastern University 53-51 for their first ever title in the women’s division.

Four Red Cubs, meanwhile, chipped in double-digit points as they withstood National University 64-60 to reign supreme in the juniors’ division.

FEATURED STORIES

Piatos led La Salle with 16 points, while teammate Ara Abaca was awarded the Master Women’s MVP for spearheading the Lady Archers’ campaign in the pre-season.

Abaca also completed the Gatorade Mythical Five along with Centro Escolar University’s Shaddy Ogunsemuyen, University of Santo Tomas’ Lore Rivera and FEU’s Camille Sambile and Vangie Soriano.

Ranbill Tongco and Jayvee Mocon paced San Beda in its ‘four-peat’ act with 15 and 14 points, respectively, while Joshua Caracut and Jess Diputado combined for 21 points.

Mocon, who also pulled down 10 rebounds for the Red Lions, was adjudged the  Master Juniors MVP, and a member of the Gatorade Mythical Five.

San Sebastian’s Ranzel Yong and Michael Calisaan, NU’s Mark Dyke, and Letran’s Gerdy Alacre round up the mythical five for the tournament.
