Lim gains singles, doubles q’finals

ALBERTO Lim Jr., steadily recovering from a bout with diarrhea, scored victories in the singles and doubles Friday to barge into the the quarterfinals of both categories in the Tugu Muda Cup international junior tennis championships in Manahan, Indonesia.

The 14-year-old Lim, seeded third in the singles, drubbed Chinese Taipei’s Ko Shao-min, 6-3, 7-5, to advance against Thailand’s Suthianan Tanthaseraneewat in the Grade 4 tournament. Lim earlier eliminated another Chinese Taipei bet, Liu Shao-fan, to make it to the third round.

Suthianan upset fifth seed Lo Cien-shun of Chinese Taipei, 6-0, 7-5.

Lim and partner Han Yo-chan, the top seeds in doubles, marched to the quarterfinals with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over the Indonesian pairing of Ariet Rahman and Pambudi Elsa Wiguna.

They will next take on Jeffrey Hsu of Chinese Taipei and Jiang Pengxuan of China who booted out Indonesians Jeremy Nahor and Indra Adhiguna, 7-6 (7-4), 6-0.  Marc Anthony Reyes
