MANILA, Philippines – Lyceum had never beaten San Beda since joining the NCAA in 2011.
But not until Monday as the Pirates shocked the Red Lions 70-66 in their first game of the 89th Season at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
“Winning against top teams, hindi pwedeng ibibigay na lang. Good things will happen with the efforts you give. Our sacrifices paid off,” said Lyceum head coach Bonnie Tan.
Skipper Shane Ko delivered 23 points, including the game-sealing free throws with 6.8 seconds left, and had six rebounds and three assists.
The Red Lions, who escaped St. Benilde last Saturday, dropped to 1-1.
