PH Bronco team out to end long wait for W. Series berth
ARMED with more experience and homefield advantage, the Philippines seeks to end a 24-year wait for a place in the Pony International Bronco World Series when it vies in the Asia Pacific qualifiers from July 14 to 17 at Rizal Memorial baseball stadium.
Known as the Habagat, the PH squad will contest the World Series spot against Chinese-Taipei, Japan, South Korea, Far East Russia and Indonesia in the four-day tourney for 12-year-old players.
The event’s winner will compete in the World Series in Los Alamitos, California, on Aug. 1 to 4.
Article continues after this advertisementAppearing at the PSA Forum at Shakey’s Malate, Pony League Philippines chief Rodolfo “Boy” Tingzon Jr. as well as team officials led by Mike Ochosa yesterday said they were optimistic of the Habagat’s chances.
“The chance to host this event does not come often because everybody wants it,” said Tingzon.
A solid coaching staff is being tapped to whip the Habagat into fine form.
