Del Potro suffers horror fall in Wimbledon quarterfinal
LONDON — Former US Open champion Juan Martin del Potro needed treatment after suffering a nasty fall in the first game of his Wimbledon quarter-final against Spanish fourth seed David Ferrer on Wednesday.
Del Potro, the Argentine eighth seed, called for the doctor following his tumble near the Center Court baseline when he stretched to reach a smash from Ferrer while leading 40-15.
Article continues after this advertisementThe 24-year-old’s left leg bent at an awkward angle as he slipped, but it was the left knee, already heavily strapped from a previous problem earlier in the tournament, that the doctor examined closely.
Del Potro was treated for several minutes before finally deciding to resume playing.
