Dural, Tiu seize major drag race crowns

ROMMEL Dural emerged overall champion while last year’s champion Jonathan Tiu snared two major titles in the 2013 Petronas Philippine Drag Racing Championship Northern Series held recently at Clark International Speedway.

Wins in the final two legs keyed Dural’s first career championship in the premiere M&H Pro class and eventually, the overall crown, in the series sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines (AAP).

Dural shared the limelight with teammate Tiu who steered the JCT-Blanche team to a sweep of the major titles when he bagged both the M&H Super Pro and overall plums.

Dural, who moved up the pro class only this year, turned back Arvin Millet in the first round and Marc Manalo in the semifinals before earning a title crack against veteran teammate Jonathan Young.

A red light violation ended Young’s bid, automatically handing the championship to Dural who wrapped up his bid with 40 points.
