San Sebastian rips Arellano, catches San Beda on top at 7-0
MANILA— Calvin Abueva dished out the first triple-double of the season as San Sebastian notched its seventh straight victory by whipping Arellano U, 92-79, yesterday in the 87th NCAA basketball tournament at the FilOil-Flying V Arena in San Juan.
The hardworking forward from Pampanga tallied 18 points, collected 13 rebounds and issued a career-high 10 assists as the Stags caught up with defending champion San Beda on top at 7-0.
Article continues after this advertisementSwingman Ronald Pascual exploded for 27 points on top of five rebounds and five assists and Ian Sangalang finished with 16 points and 14 rebounds as the Stags completed the wire-to-wire win.
Later, Emilio Aguinaldo College drew strength from rookie Joshua Torralba and spitfire guard Jan Jamon to extend Perpetual Help’s miseries with a 71-58 rout.
Torralba pumped in 15 points while Jamon notched 13 as the Generals improved to 3-4. The Altas fell to 1-6 like the Chiefs.
