CAGAYAN Valley tries to break away from the pack when it takes on PLDT MyDSL today in the featured match of the Super Liga women’s volleyball triple bill at Filoil Flying V Arena.
The only unbeaten team so far in the six-team interclub tournament, the Lady Rising Suns go up against the PLDT Speed Boosters at 2 p.m. looking for their third win in a row.
TMS Philippine Army and Petron, with identical 1-1 records, clash in the second game at 4 p.m. while Cignal guns for a second victory when it takes on winless PCSO Bingo Milyonaryo at 6 p.m.
Playing with a smaller but faster and hard-working lineup, Cagayan Valley notched its second straight five-set triumph to underscore its staying power and composure under pressure.
“We still have to work hard and avoid being complacent,” said Cagayan Valley coach Nestor Pamilar. “We’re known as a hard-working team, and we promise to live up to that billing throughout the tournament.”
Cagayan anchors its strength on libero Angelique Dionela and power-hitting mainstays Shiela Marie Pineda, Joy Cases and Analyn Joy Benito.
PLDT will bank on Pau Soriano and Ma. Leuseht Dawis in its bid to bounce back from a setback late Friday to Petron, 25-22, 25-19, 17-25, 25-19.
