PSL: Cagayan, Army spikers target victory No. 4

CAGAYAN Valley and TMS-Philippine Army run their semifinal chase through separate opponents today in the Philippine Super Liga women’s volleyball at Philsports Arena.

Cagayan Valley faces up-and-down Petron in the 6 p.m. nightcap of the three-game schedule hoping to bounce back from a straight-set defeat to Cignal last Sunday.

That defeat allowed the Lady Troopers to catch the Lady Rising Suns at the helm, and Army hopes to stay on top when it guns for a fourth straight victory in its match against Bingo Milyonaryo at 4 p.m.

Cignal, riding on the crest of that 25-18, 25-21, 25-22 upset of Cagayan Valley, tries for a second victory when it opens match day against PLDT MyDSL at 2 p.m.

Petron’s Blaze Spikers hope to build on Fille Cainglet’s breakout game against PCSO Bingo Milyonaryo Sunday, when the former Ateneo hotshot fired 18 points in an 18-25, 25-21, 25-22, 25-16 victory.

Former UAAP and Shakey’s V-League MVP Michelle Carolino will lead the Lady Troopers, who also boast top caliber players Joanne Bunag, Nerissa Bautista, Mary Jean Balse and Cristina Salak.

They will face a Puffins squad that draws firepower from Michelle Gumabao, Maureen Penetrante-Ouano and Ivy Remulla.

Cignal’s HD Spikers will bank on Venus Bernal, Danika Gendrauli, Honey Royse Tubino and head-turner Michelle Datuin.

The slumping Speed Boosters are on a three-game losing skid despite the presence of top Adamson players like Pau Soriano, Angela Benting and Charmaine Moralde, and San Sebastian standout Lou Ann Latigay. Marc Anthony Reyes
