VETERAN internationalist BJ Ang and Excel Torres of Iloilo Watercraft Association topped their respective classes in the recent SBMA Jet Ski Invitational Race 2013 off Waterfront Beach in Subic Bay Freeport.
Ang, the lone Filipino invited to vie in the 2013 Asian Motorboat Liuzhou Open in China on Sunday, displayed superb skill with his fast all-stock 2011 Sea Doo to lead from the let-go and capture the Expert Runabout Open crown.
Torres survived the challenge of champion riders to prevail as Expert Runabout 4-Strokes champion in the race supported by the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority.
Paul del Rosario, the country’s No. 1 rider, showed the form that made him the 2010 World Jet Ski Expert Runabout Open champion to rule the Open Ski class over top female riders Jam Mangio and Abby Reyes.
The event, organized by the Jet Sports Association of the Philippines under the helm of new president Harley David and race director Joey Millionado, also saw Australian Jet Ski Association vice president Dan Fox cop the Novice 4-Strokes title over Iloilo’s Noy Mercado and Raymond Ronquillo.
A decorated rider with several international stints in Dubai and Malaysia, Ang controlled the tempo from start to finish in the eight-lap first moto of the Expert Runabout Open. Pong Lee placed second and Excel Torres third.
