Melindo eyes 2 fly crowns

MILAN Melindo was at ringside when Juan Francisco Estrada snatched Brian Viloria’s World Boxing Association and World Boxing Organization flyweight crowns on April 6.

Tonight, the 25-year-old Melindo (29-0, 12 KOs) will try to fulfill his promise of bringing back the twin titles to the Philippines when he tangles with Estrada in a 12-rounder at Venetian Macao’s Cotai Arena.

The 23-year-old Estrada, who totes a record of 24-2, 18 KOs, will enjoy a 2-inch height and reach advantage over the 5-foot-2 Melindo, who is perceived to be the more technical fighter.

The protagonists both tipped the scales at 111.6 pounds during the official weigh-in yesterday afternoon of the fight card dubbed as Fists of Gold II in honor of two-time Olympic gold medalist  Zou Shiming of China, who will be staging his second pro fight against Mexican Jesus Ortega.  Zou tipped the scales  at 111.4 lb while Ortega weighed in at 111.6 lb.
