THE LADY Tamaraws moved within a win last Sunday of pulling off a Far Eastern University sweep of the men and women’s divisions of UAAP basketball in the first round at Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
The Lady Tamaraws dumped University of the East, 74-53, to stay unbeaten in six games, on the same day the FEU men’s squad completed a seven-game sweep of the first round.
Camille Sambile posted a double-double of 29 points and 11 rebounds to power the defending champion Lady Tamaraws, who stretched their remarkable winning streak to 24 games dating back to 2011.
Meanwhile, National U rode Afril Bernardino’s 16 points, 19 rebounds and three blocks to deal La Salle’s first loss in a 64-55 decision.
Both the Lady Bulldogs and the Lady Archers wound up tied with 5-1 records.
First-round action wraps up on Sunday with the Lady Tamaraws shooting for a sweep versus the Lady Archers at 1:30 p.m.
University of Santo Tomas outlasted Adamson in overtime, 81-80, to rise to 3-3.
University of the Philippines drubbed winless Ateneo, 56-46, and tied Adamson at 2-4.
In juniors play, NU routed De La Salle Zobel, 77-58, for a perfect 6-0 card, while Ateneo tripped Adamson, 69-57, to join the Junior Archers and the Baby Tams at second at 4-2.
UST improved to fifth at 3-3 after a John Mayor buzzer-beater lifted the Tiger Cubs to a 66-64 escape over the Junior Maroons. Jasmine W. Payo
