Gin Kings, Aces collide today

MANILA—Crowd-Darling Barangay Ginebra seeks to equal the longest winning run of five games in the PBA Philippine Cup when the Gin Kings battle the resurgent Alaska Aces today at the Araneta Coliseum in Cubao. Game time is 6:30 p.m. The odds are just about even as the Kings lock horns with an Alaska side fresh off one of the most one-sided wins in the tournament last Wednesday. “We sure hope that we could take the momentum of this win for Sunday (today),” Alaska coach Tim Cone told reporters after a 29-point blowout of Powerade. “We will need all the momentum we can get against Ginebra.” Newcomer Meralco guns for the first winning streak of the franchise earlier when the B-Boys battle unpredictable Air21 at 4 p.m. The B-Boys will be coming off an 83-71 upset of the Aces whom they pounded even without leading scorer Mac Cardona. Cardona is expected to be back against the Express.

The Kings have been unstoppable ever since, taking a one-point loss at the hands of San Miguel three weeks back, as coach Jong Uichico has found ways to juggle the playing time of his star-studded backcourt.
