MANILA, Philippines — Qatar and Kazakhtan swept their respective first round assignments on Saturday in the 27th FIBA-Asia men’s championships at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Qatar blasted Hong Kong, 87-64, behind Jarvis Hayes’ 25 points to ace group B, which has three teams left after Lebanon’s suspension.
Hayes, an ex-NBA player, just missed three of his 13 shots from the field to carry the Qataris to their second victory.
Kazhakstan, meanwhile, defeated India, 80-67, to finish 3-0 in group D.
Mikhail Yevstigneyev sizzled with 21 points while guard Jerri Johnson added 16 points, four rebounds and six assists for the Kazahks.
Vishesh Bhriguvanish scored 19 points for the Indians, who failed to added another win in the competition after beating Thailand, 89-65.
